Niclas Tiedemann, born in 1995 in Lübeck, is a documentary photographer and filmmaker based in Leipzig. His photographic focus lies on long-term documentary projects and portrait photography. In his work, he engages deeply with the complex interplay between political decisions and social structures. 

Niclas initially began studying economics. However, he soon discovered photography as his true means of expression. To further develop his skills in visual storytelling, he began studying photojournalism at Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts in 2021 and also studied at KASK (School of Arts) in Belgium. His work has been published, among others, in “Der Spiegel”,  “ZEIT / Campus”, “Go Magazin”, “Leipziger Volkszeitung” and the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.

Niclas Tiedemann (*1995) is a German documentary photographer and filmmaker based in Leipzig, Germany. He discovered his love for visual storytelling and has since dedicated his freelance work to exploring the intricate field of tension between politics and society in Germany and beyond.

Doel - a Village that Refused to Die



Nestled on the outskirts of Antwerp, Doel is a village caught between history and progress. Once a busy, thriving place, it’s now a shadow of its former self, with only about 22 people still calling it home.

For over 40 years, Doel was marked for demolition to make way for the expanding Antwerp port. Despite this, the village has become a powerful symbol of resistance. After decades of fighting for its survival, it now seems that Doel might finally be saved.

This project isn’t just about a village fading away—it’s about the people who keep its spirit alive, even as the world around them changes. [ONGOING]

My aunt and uncle worked for the BND for many years, yet their activities remained unspoken even within the family. After their sudden deaths, there was a haunting feeling that I had only ever known a fraction of what truly made them who they were. 
Inspired by August Hanning’s description of the Federal Intelligence Service as the “vegetarians among intelligence agencies,” Were You Really a Vegetarian? sets out on a personal search for traces and answers. Drawing on the aesthetics of the spy genre, the work approaches a truth that will likely never be fully resolved. [ONGOING]

In the heart of the North Atlantic, the Faroe Islands have long been known for their rich cultural heritage and deeply rooted traditions. However, winds of change are sweeping across this archipelago.


“Skopunarfjørður” explores the intricate dance between tradition and progress. The construction of tunnels that weave through t the Faroe Islands signifies a noteworthy departure from the islanders' traditional way of life.  These infrastructure changes let the Faroese get closer together than ever before, but along comes an everlasting impact on society and culture. [ONGOING]
